Make the Candy Melt Skulls

  1. Melt the white candy melts according to the package directions.
  2. Transfer the melted candy to a piping bag or small zip-top bag with the corner snipped off for easier filling.
  3. Pipe into your skull silicone mold. Tap the mold to release any air bubbles.
  4. Freeze for about 5 minutes, or until firm.

Make the Raspberry “Blood”

For a chunky “brains” or gore effect:

  1. Add 1/2 cup of frozen raspberries and 1 tbsp of sugar to a microwave-safe bowl.
  2. Heat for 1:20 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds, until the raspberries break down.
  3. The result should be a jam-like texture, perfect for adding some gory detail around the skull.

For a smooth drizzle:

  1. Strain the raspberry mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a microwave-safe bowl to remove seeds and chunks.
  2. Add a splash of water to rinse the remaining liquid through the sieve (this water becomes part of your drizzle mixture).
  3. Add 1/2 tsp honey and 1/2 tsp cornstarch.
  4. Microwave again until thickened (about 30 seconds), then cool completely.
  5. Transfer to a small piping bag for easy drizzling.

Attach the Icing Decorations and add Gore

  1. Heat the edge of a butter knife (I use a kitchen torch, but you can also dip it in hot water).
  2. Gently press the heated knife into the top of one candy skull to create a small indent.
  3. Immediately press the icing decoration axe or cleaver into the softened spot before it hardens.
  4. Repeat with remaining skulls, working one at a time.
  5. Let all the skulls sit for a few seconds until the candy hardens again and the icing decorations are secure.
  6. Once set, spoon some of the cooled chunky raspberry mixture around the base and over each skull for a gory “brains” effect. (this part can be done after adding skulls to the cupcakes as well).

Frost & Assemble

  1. Pipe a swirl of buttercream onto each cooled cupcake using a 1M tip (or your favorite large piping tip).
  2. Using a piping bag with just the tip cut off, drizzle the smooth raspberry “blood” over the frosting.
  3. Place your decorated candy skull on top.
  4. Add one final drizzle of smooth raspberry sauce over everything to tie it all together.
